This resort on the Lisbon coast, a 20-minute drive from the city, includes hotel rooms created for families plus 12 designer houses with kitchens. A superb raft of extras include a kids clubhouse, swimming pool and outdoor play areas, with add ons like swimming lessons, day trips, bike rental and more to make a family stay exceptional. The family concierge team helps to arrange item such as bottle sterilisers pre-arrival to make a stay easy. There are 3 different restaurants in the resort - O Terraço, the Lounge Bar and The M Bar, all family-friendly with a variety of menus. The hotel has a spa with Voya treatments, plus sauna, Jacuzzi and steam room. A well-equipped gymnasium is housed by the indoor pool and Finisterra Spa and you can book additional personal training sessions and more on request. The kids club and/or babysitting service can take care of the children while you explore Michelin-starred restaurants, beaches, bars and museums nearby (babysitting charged from €16 per hour).

Why Kids Love it

There is a 700-sqm kids club house with play spaces for all ages from 6 months to early teens, and caring and responsible staff, so kids are well looked after, and parents can relax. There are also several playgrounds around the resort, all carefully designed to make it fun for families, and 3 pool areas, heated and unheated. A baby concierge service can offer items including bed rails, toilet seat adapters, stair gates, baby bottle steriliser, cribs and more. Some items are subject to availability on request so guests are advised to book in advance. In room/villa babysitting is also available on request. A wide variety of lotions, nappies, and other items are available to buy at the resort reception. Guided bike hire and personal swimming lessons, SUP tuition and more available via the hotel for an extra fee.

Things to Know

Rates are indicative and subject to change - please contact the hotel directly via the Contact Host button for accurate pricing. All stays include breakfast and VAT; there is an extra tourist tax of €2 per person per night. Accommodation options range from hotel rooms to family villas. Cribs are subject to availability and must be requested in advance. Stair gates are in the kids club and in the villas.

Included in the rate: Voya organic toiletries, hair dryer, robe and flip flops, TV with multichannel service and video on demand, pay TV, telephone and WiFi. All rooms are non-smoking, fully air conditioned and have a daily maid service (except for the kitchen).

The kids club operates a morning drop off session from 09.30-12.30pm, and an afternoon session from 2pm-5pm, which is family time without supervision (both no charge for children from 3 to 9 years old); there is a fee for the baby services (6 to 36 months), at €12.50/hour (morning session) and some baby items may have a fee - check with the resort in advance to confirm. There is a bike station for bike rental, with children’s bikes and adult bikes with child seats plus guided tours available. Of the 12 villas, only 6 have a washing machine installed, however family laundry service is available at the resort.

About the Location

Martinhal Cascais is located right in the middle of 2 championship golf courses – Quinta da Marinha and Oitavos Dunes and is around 40 minutes west of Lisbon on the coast. It is all part of the Sintra Cascais Natural Park, and the landscape varies between the stunning Sintra Hills, amazing coastline and UNESCO world heritage sites. Cascais and Guincho beaches are only 5 minutes away, and Estoril, Carcavelos and other beaches are further along the coast with opportunities to surf, bodyboard, windsurf, dive and take boat trips. Other activities nearby include tennis, horse-riding, cycling and hiking. Lisbon airport is approximately 40 minutes’ drive away. Car rental is useful. The hotel can arrange sports activities, day trips and cultural sightseeing tours.

Accommodation Details

The resort has 72 rooms and 12 villas, all sharing facilities.

Hotel rooms sleep up to 4 plus a baby and are 40 sqm each with large bathrooms including a shower and bathtub. Some rooms have an Italian designer bunk bed for kids plus super kingsize bed for adults; others have a screen between the living room and bedroom and are a little larger. Interconnecting rooms are also available. Please consult the hotel directly for advice on the right configuration for your family. All hotel rooms have huge windows and extend out onto spacious balconies with views either over the water features, garden and pool area in the hotel or the greens of the adjacent Quinta da Marinha golf course. Rates start at €165 per night (2 people plus a baby).

Villas have 2 bedrooms and a kitchen, a living room and a dining room. Bedrooms are upstairs and have ensuite shower bathrooms. Beds are all super kingsize but can be set as twin beds; the kitchen is set up with fridge, stove, dishwasher, washing machine (in 6 of 12 villas), basic crockery, cutlery and pans. Each house has a large terrace with family seating on the ground floor that overlooks a green area and the Clubhouse pool area. Rates start at €338 per night depending on season, and breakfast is included.

Style Notes

Modern family. The award-winning Lisbon architect João Paciencia was tasked with designing this hotel together with landscape architect Francisco Cabral. The result is a sophisticated and yet children-friendly hotel with perks and treats for parents and space and play areas for kids. Elegant dining areas make dinner without kids a pleasure in the O Terraço restaurant, all white linen tablecloths and candles, while the other eating areas are cozy, with hanging egg chairs for kids to enjoy and a more casual, homely feel. The hotel bedrooms are spacious and contemporary in feel, with large scale modern art and plenty of room for a family of 4. Villas are similar in feel, with more space and great balconies with views of the resort. We love the undulating landscaping around the outdoor pool, the playful playgrounds and the attention to detail throughout, that creates a resort that really understands how modern families want to travel.
