Perks for the Parents

This apartment, 10 minutes' drive from Manly Beach, has plenty of room for children to play outside and is well set up for those with younger kids. On the lower level of a building with artificial turf in the garden and a covered area, it is ideal for visiting the Northern Beaches area of Sydney. The local hosts can provide insight on kid-friendly activities, attractions and restaurants in the area, and can provide a babysitting service for an extra charge on request (advance notice required). There is easy access into Sydney CBD (approximately 25-45 minutes away by car).

Why Kids Love it

The residence is best suited for babies and toddlers. The lower level is protected from street noise traffic. If traveling with young children the hosts can provide the following on request: high chair, bumbo seat, baby rocker, travel cot, pram, baby bath and toys. Being so close to the beach, they also provide beach towels and picnic blankets. There is no shortage of coffee shops in the area, plus convenient access to Manly Beach, Manly dam, playgrounds, swimming pools, surfing, shopping, library and dog parks.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. The property is fully enclosed. The travel crib can fit into the master bedroom or lounge. Guests have exclusive use of the lower level and covered deck; the side of the house is shared. Street parking is available on the nearest cross street. The hosts have a dog that stays inside and is very gentle and child friendly. No smoking and no parties. Pets considered. The lounge room has free to air TV, a DVD player, dining and basic kitchenette facilities: fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle and hotplate (no oven).

About the Location

The suburb of Balgowlah is the gateway to the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Within a 10 minute walking radius (800m) there are a handful of cafés, a shopping mall, grocery store, playground, pharmacy and doctor. It is a 10-minute drive by taxi to Manly Beach (3 km), or 30 minutes by bus, and a 25-45 minutes bus ride to Sydney CBD, depending on time of day. There is a steep hill to reach the bus stop. The hosts can provide guidance on using shuttles from airport, buses, ferries, taxis, uber and car rentals. There are frequent buses to and from Manly Beach, Warringah Mall and Sydney CBD throughout the day.

Accommodation Details

This lower level apartment includes 1 bedroom with a queensize bed and wardrobe, a lounge with sofa bed and basic kitchenette. The bathroom has a tub and rain shower. The laundry room has a washing machine and wash basin (no dryer). For drying clothes there is a large drying rack on the side of the house. Guest access is along the side of the house. There is a garden and semi-covered outdoor space.

Style Notes

Modern family. The house is simple, with practical furnishings, bright pops of color on statement walls, and uses the small space cleverly. The semi-covered outside deck includes a dining area and there is a play space for children outside including a slide. We love the location, close to some of Sydney’s most famous beaches, and the clever set up for a small family with young children.

We are a young family of three and a dog. We love traveling and are inspired by families who travel. Our goal is to make visitors feel at home and showcase why we love living in Sydney.

Northern Beaches, Sydney

Famous beaches and family fun

Warning: staying here may make you want to emigrate to Sydney. The northern beaches suburb of the city is little drive from the CBD but with famous beaches and national parks on your doorstep, who needs skyscrapers? Eat at beachside cafés, swim in ocean swimming pools and build castles in the sand. The ferry from Manly to the city is one of the best-known attractions; take a stroll around ancient headlands and national parks to truly feel like a local.

Jeff was very friendly and the place was cute, they provided a high chair automacally which was nice. Jeff also brought in extra toys for our children and there was a small patio outside for the kids to roam around. However, the location was really a 9 minute taxi ride or a half an hour bus ride to the beach, after having to climb a super steep hill to the bus stop. The place has a washing machine which was handy with kids, the shower was a bit temperamental though, went hot and cold constantly so was hard to have a shower. We also ended up all in one bed (2 adults and 2 kids) for the first night because the host forgot to provide bedsheet for the sofa bed and when I messaged he had already gone to bed. All in all, it was ok for a couple of nights but it felt more like crashing at a friend’s house than staying in your own apartment.
