Perks for the Parents
This astonishing award-winning modern Mayan home, within easy reach of the Mayan sites of Uxmal and Chichen Itza, is a study in indoor-outdoor living and is surrounded by landscaped gardens and fireflies at dusk. With the master bedroom at opposite ends to the guest room you will enjoy the privacy and views every room offers. The bathrooms are beautiful. The pool is visible from anywhere in the house. A masseur or private chef is available upon request at an additional charge; housekeeping staff are included.
Why Kids Love it
This wonderful home offers plentiful opportunities to play, in the open air living spaces, palm-lined yard and easily accessible pool. Note that there are no pool gates and limited childproofing. Kids can enjoy playing soccer with Eva, the property’s friendly German Shepherd, who also loves playing with the water cannon. Fireflies come out at night - a magical sight for all ages. A travel crib is available but there are limited baby items on offer. Cenotes, underground caves with bright blue water, are scattered around the area and are a must-see experience.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 3 nights most of the year, 7 nights in the holiday season. Gratuity of 5% is requested from guests usually prior to a stay or upon arrival for household and garden staff. Low season rate is $300/night May through October. High season rate is $350/night November through April. Holiday season rate is $425/night December 15th through January 6th. There is a 1 week minimum rental period during the holiday season. As typical in Mexico, there are few safety features - there is no pool gate and there is a series of shallow ponds (12"-16" deep) in the garden. The living space is open to the garden via sliding doors so those with younger children will need to be vigilant. Daily cleaning is provided and linens are changed every 3 days. There is ample private parking. While there is no cable TV, there is a flat screen TV and DVD player and a library of popular and kids videos, plus Apple TV. There are 3 adult and one child’s bikes for guest use.
About the Location
The residence is in the village of Sac Chich, half a mile from the town of Acanceh and around 40 minutes from Merida International Airport and 3 hours’ drive from Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum. It is a small town, home to 50 Mayan families, and close to markets for basic food supplies in Acanceh. There are supermarkets in Merida. Daily excursions nearby include the Mayan sites of Uxmal and Chichen Itza, both about 1 hour away, along with several other smaller sites 20 minutes’ drive. Other attractions include the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico and the nature preserve of Celestun with its pink flamingos and wildlife.
